Destinations - Amazing India

India is a colorful tapestry interwoven with many cultures. It is the cradle of the oldest civilizations in the world and the birthplace of several religions. From the ancient period, its rich natural resources attracted invaders from different parts of the world, which resulted in an infusion of many cultures that add a unique multidimensionality to the land and its people.
From ancient monuments, natural beauty and modern cities, India offers tourists a wide array of attractions spread over 28 states and 7 union territories.

Getting there
Depending on which part of the country you plan to visit, the country’s largest airports in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai connect to the north, west, east and south respectively. There are also connections from international destinations that land at other regional airports.

Places to see
North India – The capital, New Delhi, is the gateway to the north with its ancient monuments. Agra is one of the most visited places because of the Taj Mahal. Rajasthan is known for the romance of its grand palaces and forts. From the northern states, the Himalayan ranges within the country and in bordering nations such as Nepal and Bhutan can be accessed to get the best views of the world’s mightiest peaks, Mt. Everest, K2 and Kanchendzonga.

West India – Mumbai, in the western state Maharashtra, is India’s financial and business capital. The city also has colonial architecture, colorful fishing villages and a cosmopolitan outlook that best represents modern India. Gujarat, the neighboring state, is a major center for industry and textiles. Goa, further south is a popular beach destination.

East India – Kolkata, once the capital of the British Raj, is a center for arts and culture. Its Victorian style architecture, unique mangrove systems and delicious cuisine make it a popular place to visit. To the north east, seven small states offer the best off the beaten track options that present the most unspoiled natural reserves in India.

South India – From the tropical greenery of Kerala to the ancient temples of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, the southern states have a lot to offer. Chennai, the fourth largest metropolis in the country is a gateway to the south.

Best time to visit
Depending on which states or cities you plan to travel to, the ideal time to visit would differ. In general, the post-monsoon and pre-summer months (October-March) present the best time to visit as the weather is cool and dry.
